Membership
There shall be seven classes of members:
(i) All members who were entered in the
register of the Society as Foundation Members before 1 January 1952, shall be
Foundation Members.(ii) A person holding a University Degree in any of the
social sciences and paying Rs.3,000 in one sum may be admitted as a Life Member,
provided two-thirds of the members of the Managing Committee uphold his/her
application. A person residing abroad (outside of the SAARC countries) will have
to pay US$ 300 or equivalent in Indian rupees. (iii) A person holding a
University Degree in any of the social sciences and paying an annual
subscription of Rs.300 shall be entitled to become an Ordinary Member of the
Society, provided two-thirds of the members of the Managing Committee uphold
his/her application. (iv) A person who is studying a social science subject as a
regular student in any of the Indian Universities or Colleges affiliated to them
shall be entitled to become a Student Member by paying an annual subscription of
Rs.100. (v) It shall be competent to the Managing Committee to admit a person
who pays Rs.30,000 in one sum as a Patron of the Society, who then shall be
entitled to receive for life all publications of the Society
free of cost. (vi) Institutional Membership for institutions by paying Rs.10,000
(one-time payment). (vii) It shall be competent to the Managing Committee to
affiliate other associations/societies with similar aims and objects, seeking
affiliation to Indian Sociological Society, on the following terms and
conditions:
a) Any association/society
affiliated to the Indian Sociological Society shall pay an affiliation fee of Rs.
500 per annum. b) It will be entitled to send not more than three delegates to
the All-India Sociological Conference organized by the Society. c) It is
entitled to get a copy of Sociological Bulletin free of cost during its period
of affiliation.
Presently, the Society has over 2,250
members.
