An historical sensibility and a combination of four perspectives-Marxism, feminism, spatial studies and post structuralism/ post colonialism influences her work which covers diverse areas such as modernity and social theory, history of sociology/social sciences, city-formation, social movements, gender construction, reservation, quota politics and caste and class formations in India. She is also an active interlocutor of teaching and learning practices, and has written on the challenges that organise its reconstitution within classrooms, University structures. She is the author of more than sixty papers and is the Series Editor of Sage Studies in International Sociology (including Current Sociology Monographs (2010-2013), Oxford India Studies in Contemporary Society (Oxford, India) and Cities and the Urban Imperative (Routledge, India). She is also the author of The Making of Industrial Relations (OUP, 1997), editor of The ISA Handbook of Diverse Sociological Traditions, Sage London (2010) and Doing Sociology in India, Genealogies, Locations and Practices, Delhi, Oxford (2011) as also a coeditor of five books, Bombay: Metaphor of Modern India (OUP, 1995); Bombay: Mosaic of Modern Culture (OUP, 1995); Bombay and Mumbai: The City in Transition (OUP, 2003); Thinking Social Science in India (Sage, 2002); and Urban Studies (OUP, 2006). She has been associated in various capacities with the International Sociological Association and has been its first Vice President for National Associations (2002-2006).

Abha Chauhan is Professor of Sociology at the University of Jammu, Jammu, India. At preset she is also the Head of the Department and Convenor, Board of Studies. She holds Ph. D. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Her research interests include gender, tribal and community studies, marriage, kinship, culture and conflict. She has published three books and co-authored one as well as published several articles in national and international books and journals on the related themes. She has about twenty-four years of teaching experience at the under-graduate and post –graduate levels. Forty students have completed M.Phil and Ph.D. under her supervision. She has been South-Asia Representative, Research Committee (RC 32) ‘Women in Society’ of International Sociological Association (2006-10), Managing Committee Member, Indian Sociological Society (ISS) (2001-07), and Convenor, RC 10 ‘Gender Studies’, ISS (2011-14). At present, she is Secretary, Indian Sociological Society (2016-17).

Biswajit Ghosh is in the profession since 1987. He did his Masters from The University of Calcutta and M. Phil/Ph. D from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Dr. Mohammad Akram

Mohammad Akram is author of three books and has edited three volumes. He has more than two dozen published papers in national and international journals. He is teaching PG and UG students for seventeen years and has supervised several Ph.D. and M.Phil. students. He remained Convener of Research Committee 12 (Population, Health and Society) of Indian Sociological Society for four years and is a member of several academic and professional organizations. Dr. Akram has keen interest in Sociology of Health and has been working on health issues of the marginalized groups. His other areas of interest are social policy, development and education. He is Deputy Coordinator of DRS-I (granted by UGC) in Department of Sociology, AMU, Aligarh.

Sukant Chaudhury’s areas of interest are Environment and Development issues, Dalit and Tribal Studies, Identity, Ethnicity and Globalization and Leisure Studies. His books are: Myopic Development and Cultural Lens: An Evaluative Study of Tribal Development Programmes among Kondhs of Orissa (1993), Tribal Identity: Continuity and Change among Kondhs of Orissa (2004) Further he has about 75 articles and reviews in various journals. He is currently the Co-Editor of The Eastern Anthropologist Presently he is the General Secretary of Ethnographic and Folk Culture Society, Lucknow and Vice President of Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi.

Prof.Gurusamy, after completing post graduation, M.Phil and Ph.D researches in Gandhigram and Panjab University, started teaching career in 1985 in Gandhigram. His research interest includes sociology of development, marginalised communities, inclusive policy studies, development and displacement. Participated in many World Sociology Conferences and Forums of sociology in several countries. One of his significant achievements is conduction of a massive Campaign Against Female Infanticide in Tamilnadu (CAFIT) during 1996-2001 and influenced enactment of PNDT Act. Facilitated establishment of UGC’s Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy in Gandhigram University in 2010 Produced 18 Ph.Ds and more than 80 M.Phils so far. Published 15 books and 130 articles/research papers in National and International journals. Conducted 21 National/State level seminars/workshops/training programs and completed 2 UGC sponsored MRPs. He had also served as Convener of RC-07 of ISS during 1998-2006.
He has been the elected South East Asian Representative in RC-41 -Sociology of Population in ISA(2014-18). He also serves at present the Executive Editor of the Journal of Extension and Research(JER).
Paramjit S. Judge

Paramjit S. Judge has worked and published in the areas of political sociology of social movements and development, diaspora studies and sociological theory. He is also a Punjabi novelist and has so far published five novels in Punjabi. He has been Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Fellow (2013-2014) of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi. Among his many responsibilities, he has been Dean, Academic Affairs of Guru Nanak Dev University. He was the President of North West Indian Sociological Association (NWISA) (2014-2016).
Dr. Jagan Karade

Jagan Karade is the author of three books and five edited books. His several articles are published in reputed journals and edited books. He has completed two Major Research Project which funded by UGC, New Delhi (2011) and ICSSR, New Delhi. He is an ex-President of Marathi Samajshatra Parishad.

Prof. Hemixa Rao was a ex- Vice chancellor in HNGU PATAN. She is working as a Professor and Head Department of Sociology, Saurashtra University, Rajkot, Gujarat. She has 34 years teaching experience. More than 45 students are awarded Ph.D. degree under her guidance, 8 students pursuing Ph.D. and more than 50 students awarded M.Phil. degree.She has published more than 15 books and more than 45 articles published in national, international and at state level journals. She has completed more than 15 projects sponsored by UGC, ICSSR, state government etc. She has worked as a chairperson, NAAC peer team in more than 60 colleges. And member’s in so many NGO’s and works in various committees.

Satish K. Sharma

Born on 28.03.1954, did M. A., Phil. & Ph. D. from Panjab University, Chandigarh. Worked as Social Scientist, World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre, PGIMER, Chandiagrh; taught at M. S. University, Baroda, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and at present working as. Dr. Sharma held senior academic positions- Chairman, Dean Social Sciences, Director Population Research Centre, Director Institute of Tribal Studies, and Director Canadian Studies Development Programme at H. P. University, Shimla. He has been Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, Shastri Indo Canadian Institute Fellow, Department of Sociology, Toronto University, Ontario, and awarded D. P. Mukherjee Fellowship by Indian Social Science Association. He has widely travelled in India and abroad on academic assignments. He has authored 4 books, edited and co-edited 8 book, conducted more than 20 research projects and successfully guided more than 20 Ph. D. students.
Virendra Pal Singh
